Manažeři londýnské Nomury (kupodivu :-) odmítli výslech
PRAGUE, sept 28 (CTK) - Three international managers of the Japanese investment bank Nomura refused to give testimonies in the Ceske pivo Czech brewery case for British police this week, the latest issue of the Czech business weekly Ekonom writes.
The British authorities have complied with the Czech request for legal assistance and wanted to hear representatives of Nomura which has its European headquarters in London.
"Lawyers advise the summoned not to give testimony and not to transfer any documents mainly because our company considers criminalisation of Nomura to be an incorrect tool - abuse of the state's repressive forces - to gain advantageous positions for the state in the business suit with Nomura," Czech Nomura spokesman Jiri Hrabovsky told Ekonom.
Summons were sent to Randall Dillard, former IPB supervisory board chairman, Nomura lawyer David Thirsk, who also set on the Radegast brewery board, and Fergus Speight. Eight lawyers of the former IPB managers, who were charged in the Ceske pivo case earlier, were also to be present at the hearing.
Fraud charges in the Ceske pivo case have been brought against IPB former deputy CEOs Libor Prochazka and Aladar Blass and six businesspeople. The charges are connected with transactions with the Czech Plzensky Prazdroj brewery shares in 1997-2000.
According to Czech weekly Respekt, the Nomura financial group bought from the bank shares worth 7.2 billion crowns one day after it entered IPB.
Nomura immediately sold the breweries for a triple of the price. When IPB collapsed it turned out that it in fact paid nothing for them - it allegedly used money it borrowed from IPB.
Police have investigated several cases in connection with the IPB bankruptcy and they have closed two of them as yet.
The Czech national bank imposed forced administration on IPB on June 19, 2000. The Czech CSOB bank bought it three days later. Its representatives lodged about ten criminal complaints against the former IPB management. The state paid more than 100 billion crowns to clear IPB.
